How many artists know even their fans’ favorite menu items? CHUU’s love for her fans stood out as something truly special.

CHUU met with Hanteo News on the 7th of last month at a café in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, ahead of the release of her 1st full-length album ‘XO, My Cyberlove,’ where she shared a wide range of stories.

Even though the meeting with reporters was held to commemorate the album’s release, CHUU’s words were filled with warm affection for her fans. She did not miss a beat even when asked about a promise she would make if she were to take first place.

“If I win No. 1 on a music show, I want to treat my fans to Haidilao. I want to wear the receipt like a scarf. My fans really love Haidilao. If buying delicious food is love, then even if my back breaks, I want to treat them to Haidilao.”

CHUU’s exceptional love for her fans has been ongoing for 10 years and counting. Even on days when she appears on radio broadcasts in open studios, she has continued for a decade to approach fans until her cheeks are pressed against the glass window.

“My biggest reason for singing is my fans. Like a canary that sings with its life on the line, I want to sing while staking my voice. Even if my voice wears out and disappears, I want to sing until the very last moment I’m able to. I want to express that feeling in a letter to my fans. I want to tell them thank you for sending me endless love, and for letting me feel that love so vividly.”

CHUU’s “ultimate fan-lover” side can also be seen in her new album. Using the expression ‘XO,’ an idiom commonly written at the end of letters in English-speaking countries, as part of the album title was also connected to that sentiment.

“‘XO’ is an old expression of love. When overseas fans send me letters, they often write it at the end, so I already knew it. I thought, ‘Oh, love can be expressed this way too—that’s interesting.’ So when I encountered this song, I felt even more attached to it.”

The title track ‘XO, My Cyberlove’ is a modern love story that interprets forms of love connected through digital signals through CHUU’s own sensibility. It metaphorically depicts emotions that arise between humans and AI.

“Compared to the image people usually associate with me, the title track has a more lyrical and sad atmosphere, so I think I’ll be able to show a new side of myself. I feel very grateful and lucky that people already have a certain image that comes to mind when they hear my name. I want to show the sides that fit that image through various kinds of content, and through album promotions, my goal is to show that CHUU also has different sides.”

Although she did not manage to take No. 1 on music shows with this round of promotions, CHUU’s love for her fans once again became a major talking point. A video of her on the way home from a concert, asking fans, “Can I eat mala yeopddeok? Is it okay if I don’t feel guilty? Then I’m eating mala yeopddeok!”, recorded 8.42 million views on SNS. Right after finishing two consecutive concert days, when she could have been exhausted, CHUU still made time for fans who waited for her on her way home, a moment where her affection truly shined.

Meanwhile, CHUU released her 1st full-length album ‘XO, My Cyberlove’ on the 7th of last month.
