[Hanteo News = Reporter JUNG JUNHWA] BIGBANG’s comeback is one day away. The newly released teaser video is drawing an explosive response.

YG ENTERTAINMENT unveiled the music video teaser for the new song ‘BiiiG’ through its official SNS on the 18th. After teaser content had mainly centered on images since the comeback announcement on the 10th, this is the first time the group has revealed the sound, lyrics, and performance together.

As this is BIGBANG’s first new song under the team name in about four years and four months since ‘Still Life’ in April 2022, the biggest point of interest was what kind of texture they would return with. This teaser offers a considerable answer to that question.

▶︎ Hip-hop, not a ballad,  a confirmed direction

The most important answer is the genre.

‘BiiiG’ is a high-energy hip-hop track that compresses BIGBANG’s color. Built around a heavy hip-hop beat, the song stacks multiple sound layers, with a repetitive hook driving the track forward.

This is not simply a genre choice. Their previous song ‘Still Life’ was lyrical in nature, and in connection with the group’s hiatus, it was interpreted through the emotions of “reflection” and “closure.” Had they chosen the same texture again this time, their 20th anniversary would naturally have hardened into a narrative of summing things up.

BIGBANG went the other way. High-energy hip-hop is not a card that a team stepping back would choose. Considering the 33-show world tour that will immediately follow, this choice is closer to a design made on the premise of being performed on stage. It is a declaration that they will use their 20th anniversary not as a period, but as a starting line.

▶︎ Vintage camcorder — the smartest way to handle 20 years

The teaser’s visual grammar is also worth noting.

Set against the backdrop of a dark and distinctive party scene, lighting with stark contrast and a rough-textured vintage camcorder style are layered over a gradually intensifying beat. G-DRAGON, TAEYANG, and DAESUNG show free-spirited movements and performances that highlight each member’s individuality, rather than standardized group choreography.

The vintage camcorder texture appears to be a calculated choice. The way a group in its 20th year handles the past always carries risk. Direct scenes of reminiscence stimulate nostalgia, but at the same time, they push the team into the “past tense.”

The camcorder style bypasses this trap. Only the texture of the screen evokes the past, while the content being captured is the present. By filming scenes shot now through the grammar of an old medium, it leaves behind a sense of accumulated time without damaging their status as active artists. Removing standardized group choreography falls in the same context. A structure in which each member’s individual presence comes before arranged formations is a method that a rookie group could never attempt.

▶︎ Engraving the fandom into the lyrics

The most strategic part of this teaser is the lyrics.

The revealed lyrics directly feature the light stick that symbolizes the fandom V.I.P, known as “Bang Bong.” On top of that, the repetition of “big,” which connects to the song title, forms the hook.

Putting the light stick into the lyrics goes beyond simple fan service. The moment that line comes out in a concert venue, the light sticks in the audience themselves are converted into part of the performance. It is a structure in which the digital track and the concert are tied together as one device. Considering that the world tour opens two days later, it is more natural to see these lyrics as having been written with stadiums in mind from the beginning.

It is also meaningful that the team placed its own name, “big,” and the symbol of its fandom side by side in a 20th anniversary new song. In effect, it compresses the two axes that define those 20 years into one line of lyrics.

▶︎ Why August 19, of all dates

‘BiiiG’ will be released at 6 PM on the 19th. This is the exact day of BIGBANG’s 20th debut anniversary.

Releases timed to a date are common, but in this case, the date serves as the starting point for the entire campaign. The digital track will be released on the 19th, and the world tour will open from the 21st to the 23rd at Goyang Sports Complex. Within three days, the new song and the first concert are placed back to back.

A typical K-POP promotion builds momentum through broadcast activities after a release. This design is different. It is structured so that the buzz around the digital track flows directly into the concert venue. The fact that the teaser has already revealed both the sound and performance also appears to be an arrangement meant to narrow the distance between the experience of listening to the song and the experience of watching the stage in advance.

▶︎ The real scale is in the tour

Evaluating this comeback only by digital performance would miss half the picture.

‘BIGBANG 2026-2027 WORLD TOUR <XX : COSMOS>’ is scheduled for a total of 33 shows in 19 cities around the world, including North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia. Fan events and media exhibitions to be held around the Han River and Jamsil areas will be added to that.

A 33-show scale is a number that can only be established on the premise of top-tier ticket power in the current K-POP market. The fact that a group with no team activities for more than four years has confirmed this scale itself shows internal confidence in core demand.

In other words, ‘BiiiG’ is not an independent single, but the opening signal of the 20th anniversary campaign.

▶︎ Remaining points to watch

The first is generational expansion. BIGBANG’s core fandom is strongly formed among people in their 30s and 40s. The 20th anniversary frame is powerful for existing fans, but it can become a barrier for new listeners. However, the choice of high-energy hip-hop and the repetitive hook structure are favorable conditions for short-form spread. What kind of result emerges at this point will be key.

The musical completeness of the three-member system is also a point to watch. Since the composition in which the three members’ distinct individualities come together has been introduced as the core of the song, the distribution of parts and the density of their synergy are expected to become standards for evaluation.

The fact that BIGBANG is releasing a new song on the exact day of its 20th anniversary and beginning a 33-show world tour two days later means that this team is still operating not in the “past tense,” but in the “present tense.”

At 6 PM on the 19th, ‘BiiiG’ will open the first page of that proof.
