[Hanteo News = Reporter KANG SUYOUNG] On the 8th, BLACKPINK marked its 10th debut anniversary. It was the day that marked exactly 10 years since the group debuted with ‘WHISTLE’ on August 8, 2016. But this 10th anniversary was not filled only with celebration. Quietly running through those few days was eldest member JISOO.

An event was prepared to commemorate the 10th anniversary, but fans felt disappointed due to communication issues during the preparation process. For fans who had waited for BLACKPINK for a long time, the 10th anniversary was an especially meaningful day, and their disappointment was not small. The first person to most sincerely comfort those feelings was JISOO.

At midnight on the 8th, the day of the 10th debut anniversary, JISOO left a post on a fan communication platform. Beginning with the words, “It has been 10 years since we debuted as BLACKPINK. I think this anniversary is a day when I feel especially sorry,” she wrote, “I always wanted to exist as someone who only shows good sides and gives happiness in difficult moments, but my heart feels heavy because so many BLINKs are upset.” Even so, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “I have not forgotten that it is BLINK, the fandom name, who made BLACKPINK shine this brightly.” She ended the post by saying, “I know your disappointment may be great, but I hope there is still room inside it for a small piece of sincerity to enter.”

Later that afternoon, after finishing the commemorative event held at the National Museum of Korea in Seoul, JISOO once again shared her feelings during a Weverse Live broadcast. “We originally wanted to see so many more people. We also knew very well that the 10th anniversary was an important day,” she said. “I think there was a bit of a communication problem. I feel so sorry.” She added, “I want to say I am sorry and I love you to BLINKs who feel disappointed. I hope you know how we feel.”

Her sincerity became even clearer afterward. On her way back after the event, while greeting fans who were seeing off the car she was riding in, JISOO ultimately shed tears. JISOO is a member who had never once cried in front of the camera in the 10 years since her debut. Even in moving or overwhelming moments, she had always comforted the members and fans with a brave face instead of tears. This was the first time she showed tears in front of fans.

The next night, on the 9th, JISOO returned to the fan platform. Reassuring fans in her characteristic bright tone, she said, “A lot of people seemed surprised because I cried yesterday. I was human too.” But she did not forget what was important. “I hope people do not attach too many meanings to my tears. I want to gather all those emotions and organize them as being moved by the fact that we spent 10 years together,” she said. It was her way of expressing that she did not want her tears to be read as meaning the other members’ sincerity was lacking. She also added, “Just because I did not cry during the tour does not mean I was not moved.” Above all, she said, “I wanted to say that all four of us love you so, so much. I wanted to say that we think of you as so precious,” conveying the hearts of all four members.

JISOO once said, “What can the four of us not do when we come together?” BLACKPINK is that kind of team. The days around the 10th anniversary were not entirely smooth, but within them, the eldest member held the team firmly together, and the sincerity of the four members took the same shape. We look forward to seeing that sincerity proven through their future steps, and to the next 10 years the four members will write together becoming an even greater history.
