UNCHILD expressed bold ambitions alongside their debut.
On the 21st, UNCHILD held a showcase at Blue Square Woori WON Banking Hall to celebrate the release of their debut single ‘UNCHILD’ and shared stories about their new release.
UNCHILD is a rookie group introduced by HIGH UP ENTERTAINMENT about six years after STAYC, and they have drawn strong attention even before debut. In particular, they gained buzz as the group that includes HAEUN, who was recognized as a ‘dance prodigy’ through ‘Star King’ and the ‘2018 Melon Music Awards.’ Along with HAEUN, who has captured attention with her remarkable growth in visuals and performance skills, the group consists of six members: HAEUN, PARK YEEUN, HEEKIE, TINA, AKO, and EVON. Their debut single ‘WE ARE UNCHILD’ reflects the team’s ambition to break free from fixed frameworks and transform their individuality into a unique energy. The title track ‘UNCHILD’ is an electronic pop song produced by HIGH UP ENTERTAINMENT’s head producer RADO.
At the showcase, they talked about the moment they truly felt their debut. HAEUN said, “When I received a name tag that said ‘UNCHILD HAEUN,’ it felt like I had reached my destination.” She recalled, “At home, I have many name tags that say ‘dance prodigy HAEUN’ from shows like ‘Star King’ and ‘K-pop Star,’ but when I received one that said ‘UNCHILD HAEUN,’ it made me think of everything I’ve done so far, and I felt emotional.” She added, “It would be a lie to say I didn’t feel pressure, but I accepted it as positive pressure and spent my trainee days determined to show a great side of myself as idol HAEUN.”
Regarding the label “HAEUN girl group,” EVON said, “Since HAEUN felt pressure, we were actually more concerned,” adding, “Our team’s strength is that all six members have distinct colors and unique individuality, so as UNCHILD, we will break the world.”
PARK YEEUN, who appeared on ‘I-LAND2,’ said, “I was going through a difficult time, but after joining HIGH UP, I was able to keep practicing thanks to the warm company and members.” She added, “There’s a lyric in my part that says, ‘Fear is just a speed bump I can easily overcome.’ Back then, I couldn’t overcome my fears, but now I’ve become PARK YEEUN who can get past them with ease,” showing confidence.
They also talked about the key choreography of the title track. HAEUN introduced that there are two main moves. First, she explained the chorus move where they spread both arms as if opening a door, saying, “It represents UNCHILD opening a new door.” She continued by introducing the dance break created with HEEKIE, where they bend down and then lift their heads, adding, “This part is what we call the ‘Move Aside’ challenge, meaning that since UNCHILD is coming through, everyone should clear the way.”
HEEKIE said, “We had to create the choreography in a short time, so we stayed up all night working on it together. I’m happy that we were able to complete it with HAEUN and that the dance break was chosen as the final version.” EVON added, “We had to learn and film the choreography draft made by HEEKIE and HAEUN within a day, so I remember practicing for nearly 20 hours,” saying, “It was tough, but since we worked through it together, it strengthened our teamwork.”
They also expressed gratitude to their senior group STAYC. TINA said, “When we filmed the title track music video, STAYC’s YOON sunbaenim sent us a coffee truck and even wrote us a letter, which gave us a lot of strength.” PARK YEEUN added, “YOON sunbaenim said that when STAYC debuted, they didn’t have seniors to ask for advice, so it was difficult, and told us that she hopes we rely on STAYC.” EVON said, “We would love to film a challenge together with STAYC sunbaenim.”
They also shared their future aspirations. HEEKIE said, “I want to hear people call us ‘UNCHILD who put an exclamation mark on the world,’” adding, “I want us to be known as UNCHILD who put an exclamation mark, not a question mark, on the world.” PARK YEEUN added, “I want to hear people say we are UNCHILD, unfamiliar at first, but something you keep wanting to see.” EVON said, “I really want to win the Rookie of the Year award.”
UNCHILD’s debut single ‘WE ARE UNCHILD’ will be released today at 6 PM through various online music platforms.
