TWS shared behind-the-scenes stories about the lyric-writing process for their new album’s tracks.
TWS held a showcase on the 27th at YES24 Live Hall to celebrate the release of their fifth mini album NO TRAGEDY. On this day, Youngjae revealed, “When writing the lyrics for the B-side tracks, I referenced stories like Romeo and Juliet and characters like Elphaba and Fiyero.”
Speaking about writing the lyrics for the track “Fire Escape,” Youngjae said, “The key message of this song was ‘the certainty that you became my salvation within tragedy.’ I felt it would be limiting to rely solely on my own experiences, so I drew inspiration from books, dramas, and playlists.” He added, “I looked at similar stories like Romeo and Juliet and Elphaba and Fiyero for reference.”
Dohoon, who participated in writing the title track, said, “In line with the album title NO TRAGEDY, I wrote the lyrics while thinking about a romantic and positive kind of love,” adding, “When I first heard the ‘ttareum ttareum’ part, I thought it had a catchy and appealing pronunciation.”
Hanjin shared, “One of our goals this year was to tell the story between us and SAI (fandom name) through our lyrics. I studied Korean a lot and discussed with the members to complete the lyrics, so I’m really happy about it.”
When asked what has changed as they enter their third year, Youngjae said, “As we approach our third anniversary, I think we’ve grown in terms of being more relaxed on stage and having a wider range of expression through gestures.”
Jihoon added, “While preparing this album, our teamwork and synergy improved a lot. In the early days, things wouldn’t match even after long hours of practice, but now everything clicks instantly, and we can understand what each member is thinking just by looking at each other.”
TWS, who debuted in January 2024, made a strong impression with their debut track “plot twist,” showing a presence beyond that of typical rookies. They also won Artist of the Year (Bonsang) at the 32nd Hanteo Music Awards 2024 in their debut year, quickly establishing themselves as a key K-pop act. Their fourth mini album play hard (released last October) sparked the viral “Angtal Challenge” with its title track “OVERDRIVE,” proving both popularity and buzz.
Their fifth mini album NO TRAGEDY captures the straightforward romance of six boys who actively shape their own destiny in love. The title track “You, You” blends house sounds with R&B sensibilities, delivering a bold confession toward a destined partner. Dohoon participated in writing the lyrics, adding sincerity.
TWS’s fifth mini album NO TRAGEDY was released today (27th) at 6 PM on major music platforms. After setting a career high of 639,787 first-week sales with their previous album, attention is now focused on what new records they will achieve this time.
