The line that once had people clamoring for a version with it removed has eventually seeped into everyone. It is a line from 'DDI RO RI,' the title track of group MEOVV’s 2nd EP 'BITE NOW,' released on the 1st. MEOVV made its comeback about eight months after its digital single 'BURNING UP,' released last October, returning with MEOVV’s own luxurious and sophisticated music.
'DDI RO RI' is a song that samples Bach’s 'Toccata and Fugue in D Minor,' and at first, reactions were divided, with some calling it “unfamiliar” and even expressing a desire for a “version without DDI RO RI.” However, not long after, a video in which an ordinary listener personally removed the 'DDI RO RI' sound was uploaded, and reactions such as “It actually feels empty” and “DDI RO RI was the kick after all” poured in, quickly reversing public opinion.
What completely changed the atmosphere was the performance video released on MEOVV’s official YouTube channel on the 4th. The stage, set against a white background, focused all attention on the members, and the energy of each precise choreography move and intense facial expression came through fully. Praise poured in, with comments such as “Their beauty shines fiercely against the white background,” “I became completely immersed in DDI RO RI in just two days,” and “The camera angles are perfect for each part of the choreography. Their expressiveness stands out.” Reactions also continued, such as “It felt awkward at first, but now all I can think about is DDI RO RI” and “The members’ voices also played a part. ‘Cool’ is exactly the right word.”
This flow, in which initial unfamiliarity turned into familiarity, is not unique to MEOVV. Any artist who challenges a new genre or concept cannot help but be conscious of the public’s reaction. However, it is only natural to feel unfamiliar with music when hearing it for the first time. Artists cannot insist on only familiar songs and the same concepts every time. MEOVV attempts new challenges while still pulling them off in their own color, as if wearing clothes that fit perfectly. This is MEOVV’s greatest strength, and this 'DDI RO RI' has proven it once again.
Meanwhile, on the 1st, the day of its release, MEOVV also performed the B-side track 'Hit ;Em' at the release showcase. The stage, in which the members wore boxing gloves while pulling off intense choreography and powerful performances, drew major attention. Positive reactions followed, such as “The outro feels like a workout YouTube video by Thankyou BUBU. It must be exhausting,” “They were good before, but they got even better,” and “They are really good on stage. I had slight doubts after only watching the music video, but my mind changed.”
Their cheerful side was not missing either. On a radio broadcast, MEOVV drew laughter by making a No. 1 pledge to “lick and eat a yogurt lid on stage.” This is why their upcoming music show promotions are even more anticipated.
