[Hanteo News = Reporter KANG SUYOUNG] ONF proved its extraordinary teamwork with its first comeback after transferring agencies.
ONF held a showcase at Cube Convention Center on the 17th to commemorate the release of the 2nd part of its 2nd full-length album 'ONF:MY SELF' and shared stories about the new album.
ONF, which debuted in August 2017, has built a distinctive musical world with unique music and powerful performances through songs such as 'We Must Love,' 'Beautiful Beautiful,' and 'Moscow Moscow,' earning the modifier “a trusted source of great songs.” With Part 1 of its 2nd full-length album, 'ONF: MY IDENTITY,' released in February last year, the group recorded 111,789 copies in initial chodong sales, breaking its own record, and achieved its first No. 1 on a terrestrial music show on KBS2’s Music Bank with the title track 'The Stranger.' This 2nd part of ONF’s 2nd full-length album, 'ONF:MY SELF,' continues the narrative of Part 1 and contains a story of choosing oneself at the end of a journey. It includes a total of six tracks, including the title track 'Open The Door,' and captures ONF’s unique identity, with leader SEUNGJUN participating in the overall album planning, U in performance directing, and WYATT and MINKYUN in writing lyrics and composing.
HYOJIN introduced the album by saying, “The titles of the full-length album continue from MY NAME to MY IDENTITY and MY SELF, and in this Part 2 album, we included the meaning of wanting to express ourselves as we are. It is an album that deals most honestly with ONF’s present.” Regarding the title track 'Open The Door,' WYATT said, “It is a song that captures the emotions of the fleeting moment when we open the door to an unseen future from an anxious present,” adding, “I thought it could become the second 'Bye My Monster.'” SEUNGJUN said, “Because it is a song that is refreshing yet sorrowful and filled with emotions, people can listen to it in truly various ways depending on the situation.” Regarding his participation in writing the lyrics, WYATT said, “I wanted to depict situations of concern about an unseen future,” adding, “I hope many people will see a hopeful future through this.”
Their chemistry with producer HWANG HYUN also became a topic of attention. WYATT said, “Producer HWANG HYUN, who has been with us for more than 10 years until now, joined us again this time,” adding, “When we said we were making a new start, we had quite a lot of worries, but he said so naturally that he would do it with us that those worries felt unnecessary.” SEUNGJUN said, “As we have worked together for a long time since our debut, we have shared everything with him, from difficult stories and good stories to small stories, so I think that makes the songs feel more sincere and contain more genuine feelings,” adding, “If possible, I hope we can continue to draw an even more wonderful narrative for ONF together.” MINKYUN said, “Because the picture Producer HWANG HYUN and we were drawing was the same, we were always able to work well together,” adding, “I think it will continue to be that way in the future.”
They also opened up about the behind-the-scenes story of their agency transfer. SEUNGJUN said, “The members thought a lot about our future and our direction going forward, and we really talked a lot as well,” adding, “Our opinions were divided in many ways, but we came to transfer agencies while talking a lot about finding the future we want to pursue and create.” WYATT shared, “SEUNGJUN hyung said, ‘Isn’t it such a waste? We can do more. We have endured this much, so can’t we endure this a little more?’ That one sentence moved my heart, and I think it moved the members’ hearts as well.” HYOJIN said, “I think our goals were all the same, and because we deeply trust one another and believe our teamwork is really good, we made that decision with the thought that there may be even better results if we all stay together.” SEUNGJUN pledged, “There is a lyric in one of our songs that says, ‘Because it will be a beginning called the end,’” adding, “We will open our Act 3 like that as well.”
Regarding their goals going forward, HYOJIN said, “We want to hold concerts in much larger concert venues than now, and we are running toward our goals while also hoping to put ONF’s name on digital music charts more often.”
ONF’s 2nd full-length album Part 2 'ONF:MY SELF' was released through various online music sites at 6 PM on this day. Attention is focused on what new step ONF will take with this album.
